A movie, also known as a movie trailer, short movie or video, is an animated work of visual entertainment used to simulate events that convey stories, ideas, emotions, beauty, or setting. Most movie trailers are made for release in the form of a movie. Although some are made for theatrical or other purposes only, many are created to be shown in movie houses or on televisions. The audience watches the movie for pleasure and most do not consciously realize that the movie is an animated work or that it is intended for a commercial purpose. However, certain elements of a movie trailer lend themselves to marketing and promotional purposes.
Rating Systems. Some movies are advertised as “rated R” (by the Entertainment Industries Film Classification Board) and they are intended for explicit viewers. However, most films are intended for some audience that are not explicit and may well be open to family audiences. To qualify as an R rated film, a film must have at least some strong violence, nudity, foul language, or suggestive themes.
X Rated. The term “X rated” refers to films that are intended for adults only. Generally, films containing strong violence or foul language are x rated, whereas those containing very mild content are intended for children. Some films with both violence and strong language are called “pornographic” or “explicit”, while those containing only mild language are usually considered to be for children.
General Ratings. Many films are rated according to various formulas in order to determine their popularity with viewers. These ratings are used by the Entertainment Advertising Bureau, but they are often themselves manipulated by studio executives in order to obtain more publicity and box office. Usually the best-selling movies are marketed based on the best available rating, although this isn’t always the case.
Rated R. The most commonly seen and relied upon form of classification is the “ratedR” rating. ” RatedR” is used when a film has strong violence, nudity, foul language, and other similar elements, but it doesn’t necessarily include sexual content. For example, a movie could be ratedR, but not “pornographic”. This is the most widely used type of classification and is what the Entertainment Advertising Bureau uses to determine whether or not a film should be advertised. It is important to realize that “RatedR” is not the same thing as “PG”, “Opinion”, or “Awards”.
NC-17 Rating. The U.S. movie industry has developed an internal rating system, which is referred to as the NC-17 rating system. The NC 17 rating stands for “adults only” and is used to describe movies for audiences who are more sensitive about content. The NC 17 rating is different from the AO rating for teens and films for teenagers. When you watch a movie that is rated NC 17, it means that there are many mature and explicit scenes, but there is not necessarily any blood or other dangerous content intended for adults.
